Annual Charge Conference

Annual Charge Conference – Thursday, December 6, at 6:30PM.  Once a year, our church officers, members, and guests gather to vote on official administrative items central to every United Methodist Church.  (Only official members @UMCMerced may vote.)  At the meeting, we ratify the Board of Trustees, elect leadership officers, approve the pastor’s compensation, and recommend lay servants.  This meeting demonstrates our shared connection to the administrative ministries of our United Methodist Annual Conference and the global UMC.  Everyone is invited to attend.

Recycling Challenge

The United Methodist Women are engaged in a recycling challenge and we need your help!  Now through November 30, bring your California cash recyclables to UMCMerced.  The UMW will then redeem them with all money going to support a local nonprofit.  The chapter that wins this chalenge gets “Go Green” bragging rights for the next year!  For  more information, see Amanda Fong or Nancy Reding.

World Day of Prayer

Church Women United in the Merced area will observe World Day of Prayer on Thursday, March 1st from 10am – 12pm at the The Salvation Army, 1440 W 12th St, Merced.

The host country for WDP 2018 is Suriname.  The theme for the worship service urges us to evaluate how our actions affect our planet – one of our Lord’s greatest creations.

To recycle is to give a new use to objects, thus reducing the consumption of resources that may degrade the planet.  We may use the way we do WDP activities to educate and campaign for climate  justice.  Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!

Bring a friend.  Refreshments will be available.  Free will offering.

Discontinuance of EFT Services

Dear Members @UMCMerced,

I am writing to you to advise that it has become necessary to discontinue using the electronic funds transfer (EFT) service that facilitates your donations to be automatically deposited to the church’s bank account. This change became effective December 31, 2017.

The reason for this decision is due to the fact that the monthly fees charged by the vendor to perform this service have increased significantly to the point where we cannot justify continuing the program.  After reviewing fees schedules of competing vendors, I find no major differences in the fee levels charged by vendors providing this kind of service.

Fortunately, we have a “free” alternative!  Many of you are familiar with using an online banking application to pay bills.  So, it’s just a matter of creating a new “payee” for the United Methodist Church of Merced. You should be able to setup the new payee to make a “reoccurring” payment on whatever time cycle you choose. When you create this transaction, your bank generates a check that gets mailed to the Church. It’s that simple! You don’t incur any fee and neither does the Church!

It’s more important than ever that we be good stewards of our own financial resources, as well as those of our Church.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about this change. It will be very important that you get your new online banking reoccurring pledge donation setup to correspond with your first donation for January 2018.

If you haven’t already turned in your 2018 Estimate of Giving Card, please do so as soon as possible.

In Christ’s Service,

Larry Hall, Treasurer
